About the Club

Clarence Valley Bushwalkers Inc. was founded in 1997 by a small Group of interested bushwalkers. Since then we have grown to a membership of some 90 members currently.

During this time, walks have been conducted in a wide range of beautiful areas ranging from the New England National Park (especially Cathedral Rocks, Woolpack Rocks, Point Lookout), Washpool National Park and Gibraltar Range National Park including Anvil Rock and Dandahra Crags; south to Arakoon - Hat Head National Park and Trial Bay, south west to Oxley Wild Rivers National Park, where we did the Green Gully Walk, north to Mt Barney, Mt Warning, Springbrook National Park and Lamington National Park in South East Queensland and the Border Ranges, and west as far as Kwiambal National Park, the Warrumbungles and Mount Kaputar. Dorrigo National Park with its many waterfalls and beautiful rainforest is a favourite destination. Near Coffs Harbour, Moonee Beach Nature Reserve was well worth visiting, as was Bindarri National Park.

Please click on the National Parks drop-down links at the top of the page to see more photos from all the National Parks we have visited.

Our Group has also undertaken extended backpacking walks in Mount Kosciusko National Park, South West National Park (Tasmania) and Cradle Mountain (Tasmania), and many of the famous walking tracks in New Zealand. In 2011 we completed the 4 day Yaraygir Walk from Angourie to Red Rock through Yaraygir National Park, in 2012 we did the 4 day Green Gully Walk, and in 2013 we did the 5 day Solitary Islands Coast Walk from Red Rock to Bonville Headland.

We have canoed and kayaked most of the local rivers, and held relaxing bicycle rides in and around the Clarence Valley.

There are up to 5 scheduled club activities per month. These can include bushwalking of varying levels of difficulty, terrain and duration; kayaking/canoeing trips and overnight car-camps; full-pack weekend walks, social outings, and bicycle rides. The Group also undertakes interstate and overseas adventures. Activities that are dependent on suitable weather or tidal conditions can also be added to the program at short notice to take advantage of favourable conditions.  Disclaimer.

We usually start each activity by meeting at 8:00 AM in the Car Park behind the Grafton Tourist Information Centre, South Grafton.

We are a member of Bushwalking NSW, formerly the Confederation of Bushwalking Clubs NSW. Feel free to visit their site by clicking the link to find out more about the Bushwalking NSW. There is a lot of useful information and links there (including about insurance for members during club activities).

MEMBERSHIP

Membership of Clarence Valley Bushwalkers costs $20 per annum, most of which goes to pay for our Insurance cover with Bushwalking NSW’s Insurer. The rest pays for running expenses (Post Office Box rental, yearly registration with the government as an incorporated association, postage costs, stationery, etc). We also purchase gear for use by the club, such as an E.P.I.R.B (safety beacon), first aid packs, walky talkies for walks, and water purification equipment, and some camping equipment.

Visitors

If you would like to come on one of our activities before joining the Group, visitors and other non-members are charged a nominal fee of $5.00 per walk or activity. If you then decide to join, these visitor’s fees are deducted from the cost of your membership for the year.

Walks Grading System

We have an activity grading system which can be used as a guide for participants to assess their ability to complete Group program activities (details are on the Program page).
